The world of university applications is one where we see constant changes and updates taking place. This year has been full of changes; therefore, parents/students should be aware of these updates in preparation for their application. I would like to share these changes with our parents and students preparing for their prospective university applications as below.

You may have heard of mindfulness or read some of the recent media coverage about it. A great deal of this media interest has arisen as a result of the growing body of rigorous research evidence regarding the potential benefits of mindfulness for young people. These include randomized control trials and neuroscientific studies. Mindfulness aims to help young people:
- To cope with the everyday stresses and strains of adolescent life such as exams, relationships, sleep problems, family issues.
- To work with difficult mental states such as anxious thoughts and low moods.
- To improve their concentration and focus.
- To experience greater well-being (e.g. feel happier, calmer, more fulfilled).
- To fulfil their potential
Therefore you are invited to our workshop to meet with mindfulness, a life skill with potential benefits not only for the parents but also for the young people, to explore the science behind and to experience it.
BIOs of OUR SPEAKERS:
Buket Ayaz, Certified Educational Planner (CEP)
Buket is an experienced university guidance counsellor and higher education advocate with more than 10 years’ experience in the field.
She started her career after participating in the Independent Educational Consultant Association’s Summer Institute, which fuelled her passion for raising awareness about higher education abroad. While working as an IEC to support students’ university applications worldwide, she started developing college readiness programmes in international schools, including developing partnerships with international universities.
Buket has continued college counselling since moving to Dubai in 2016 and received her College Access Counselling Programme certificate from Rice University. She is particularly interested in careers counselling curriculum standardisation, including grade-specific college readiness programmes, which have seen her delivering college counsellor training workshops in the UAE. She was recently appointed as the only college counsellor from the Middle East to represent Unifrog on their advisory board.
A former Fulbright Scholar, Buket is the only AICEP “Certified Educational Planner” in Dubai. It is a mark of distinction demonstrating expanded knowledge and commitment to the college counselling profession, it assures families that they are working with a qualified professional who is committed to maintaining the highest quality of service to higher education advising.
Zeynep Seda Uslu, Mindfulness Coach
Zeynep Seda Uslu is a Mindfulness Coach and a Mindfulness Teacher. She is a graduate of Boğaziçi University, Department of International Trade. She is a former professional volleyball player, who played volleyball in Turkish League for 25 years. She has titles nationally and internationally. She is currently working as a professional coach accredited by ICF and runs mindfulness programs for athletes, adults and teenagers.

Mindfulness hakkında son zamanlarda bir şeyler duymuş veya okumuş olabilirsiniz. Bu ilgi mindfulness’ın genç insanlar için sağladığı faydaları anlatan araştırmaların sayısındaki artışla yükseldi. Bunlara randomize kontroller ve nörobilimsel çalışmalar da dahil. Mindfulness gençlere şu konularda yardımcı olmayı hedeflemektedir:
- Sınav, ilişkiler, uyku problemleri, ailevi konular gibi günlük yaşamın içindeki stres ve ergen olmanın zorluklarıyla başa çıkmak.
- Kaygılı düşünceler ve düşük ruh halleri gibi zorlu mental süreçlerle çalışmak.
- Konsantrasyon ve odaklanmada artış.
- Daha iyi olma halleri deneyimlemek (ör. mutlu, sakin ve tatmin hissetmek gibi)
- Potansiyelini gerçekleştirmek.
Bu nedenle sizleri yetişkinler için olduğu kadar gençler için de faydalı bir yaşam becerisi olan mindfulness ile tanışmak, ardındaki bilimi anlamak ve onu deneyimlemek için workshopumuza davet ediyoruz.
