Background Information
BEGINNER - Level 1
Program Description
Game Development refers to the process of designing, developing, and sharing a video game. With the astonishing success of games like Minecraft or Fortnite, game development has become one of the most promising fields in the world of software development. It is also a great introduction to the world of coding and its importance in our everyday lives. In the first course of this track, you will learn how to code your own games on CodeSpark, a platform that has been used by 20 million students in over 200 countries. You will use code to control the behavior of characters and make them interact with each other. You will also use code to create in-game elements such as coins, powerups, and obstacles. At the end of the course, you will have a collection of games that you can share with friends and family!

Learning Outcomes
Understand fundamental coding concepts such as sequencing, loops, conditionals
Use code to control a video game character
Learn the four main concepts of game development
Practice game development using CodeSpark
Improve problem solving and creative thinking skills

INTERMEDIATE - Level 2
Program Description
Tynker is an award-winning interactive coding platform that is used by almost 60 million kids worldwide. This platform is used by one in three K-8 schools in the U.S. Also, Tynker received the Parents’ Choice Gold Award and the Children’s Technology Review Editor’s Choice Award in 2020. In the second course of this track, students will learn fundamental programming concepts like sequencing, conditional logic and debugging in a fun and gamified way. They will solve puzzles and complete creative projects using block-based coding. At the end, they will be able to design their own games from beginning to end and share them with their friends and family as well as the Tynker community!

Learning Outcomes
Use critical thinking and problem—solving skills to solve coding puzzles
Learn fundamental programming concepts such as sequencing, repetition, and conditional logic
Use coding blocks to design games from beginning to end by adding different characters, backgrounds, and sounds
Code and design projects that can be shared with family and friends

ADVANCED - Level 3
Program Description
Code your own video games on Scratch, a platform developed and maintained by MIT Media Lab. Scratch is a block-based programming language that is used by more than 60 million users in 150 different countries. In the final course of this track, you will learn about and use more advanced programming concepts like parallelism, event triggers, and message broadcasts. You will then use these concepts to code your own video games such as a maze game, a pong game, and an archery game. At the end of the course, you will have a portfolio of video games that you can share with your friends and family!

Learning Outcomes
Learn about and apply computer science concepts such as parallelism, event triggers, and message broadcasts
Add and edit the main design elements of a Scratch program such as sprites, backdrops, and sound effects
Use and apply computer science concepts to create complete video games from beginning to end
Apply the principles of good game design
