Background Information

DRAMA

Drama classes for Teens 12-14 years old are focused on ensemble work, stagecraft and managing anxiety.

Our aim is to develop confident, spontaneous young artists who thrive in a team. Teens will be devising short scenes to present at the end of term showcase. Taking place in a beautiful theatre setting and a creative, vibrant community atmosphere, our classes conclude with a showcase in our theatre, giving the children a chance to put what they have learned into practice and gain valuable stage experience in front of an audience in a professional theatre.

Term 2: Creating Theatre and Ensemble

For the second term our focus is giving participants a solid awareness of how to approach creating a piece of theatre from inspiration such as art, music, poetry or current affairs. We will build a good understanding and experience of working effectively in an ensemble and start considering what our audience wants.

IMPROV

Would you like your child to be more confident, creative, and spontaneous? Would you like a fun way to teach them to become a better risk-taker, listener, or storyteller?
Whether it’s for performance or just a fun hobby, improvisation skills can make teens more aware of the subtle messages all around them. It can make them respond quicker than they normally would. It can lower the fear level associated with risk-taking and help overcome social anxiety. Besides being useful in every area of life, improvisation is just plain fun and a great way to make life-long friendships!

All of our classes conclude with a showcase in our theatre, giving the students a chance to put what they have learned into practice and gain valuable stage experience in front of an audience in a professional theatre.

• Suitable for ages 12 – 14 years old
• Limited participants per class ensuring you get the personalised attention that your child needs is maintained
• Over 16 hours of tuition including stage-time in a professional theatre
• A showcase performance at the Courtyard Playhouse open to your friends and family

MUSICAL THEATRE

Our Musical Theatre classes are designed to give participants a solid grounding in all three disciplines and allow them to discover the joy, and magic, of their coming together in a musical production.

We will explore songs and scenes from across a broad range of musicals styles, giving students an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the art form as well as to learn the varied skills needed to perform confidently as an ensemble and as a soloist. Following a youth theatre format, students will be given material such as a script or song, to take home and learn which will then be practised in weekly rehearsals.

At the end of the season, this material will be performed in a showcase on our stage, giving the children a chance to put what they have learned into practice and gain valuable stage experience in front of an audience in a professional theatre.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Does your child freeze-up when put on the spot in class? Are oral presentations a source of huge anxiety and stress in your family? Whether your child is already a confident public speaker or struggles with nerves, learning to present effectively is a life skill that can be a valuable asset in any child’s future.

Our classes for teens will help to take the fear out of speaking in public through fun games and exercises. We will practice impromptu speaking as well as prepared speeches and presentations with a focus on developing good articulation and voice projection, body language, personal style, and help them to express their ideas clearly and confidently.
