Background Information
A Fun and Engaging Type of Therapy

Hydrotherapy physiotherapy uses water-based exercises to help improve an individual’s muscle functions and overall well being. Also known as aqua therapy, it helps achieve therapeutic gains that may be too difficult for a child to attain through land-based therapy. The buoyancy of the water helps your child to move more effectively and safely.

At Hope AMC in Dubai, our hydrotherapy physiotherapy specialists allow patients with pain to exercise in a safe, self-regulated, and temperature-controlled pool environment. It helps our patients reap significant, long-term benefits by swimming regularly, and alter tone and joint range of movement prior to treatment on dry land.

A number of different conditions can benefit from hydrotherapy physiotherapy:
Chronic pain
Orthopedic injuries
Neuromuscular disorders
Neurological impairments
Cardiopulmonary disorders
Sensory processing disorders

Improved Physical Health, Improved Mental Health
Hydrotherapy is helpful in improving the physical and mental health of cerebral palsy patients. Besides, hydro physiotherapy can increase core strength, enhance muscle tone, flexibility, endurance, muscle spasticity, elevate metabolism, relieve joint stress, and decrease pain and discomfort.

Our hydrotherapy program at Hope AMC facilitates practicing functional skills, such as dressing, grooming, and hygiene. Your child will also start to understand verbal requests, good eye contact in the pool while our therapy caregivers will hold and assist a child in a supportive pool environment. Our hydrotherapy program blends physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy to ensure your child gets full opportunities to grow to their fullest potential.

Hydrotherapy Programs Followed at Hope AMC

1. Strengthening Activities
Our strengthening activities include blast-offs to improve lower extremity strengthening, stair negotiation in a safe and temperature-controlled pool environment for children and young kids, step-ups, jumping, sitting to stand, kneeling, and climbing.

2. Underwater Walking
A highly effective cerebral palsy exercise, our walking on an underwater treadmill program will relieve joint stress, help condition participant’s muscles, and maintain their gait in everyday life.

3. Hydrostatic Pressure
We find this hydrostatic pressure is especially beneficial for those who need an external force to improve circulation. Our hydrotherapy experts hold participants securely by the water on the submerged body to tune out outside stimuli.

4. Buoyancy and Turbulence
Aquatic buoyancy and turbulence facilitate weight relief and ease of movement. Our hydrotherapy program promotes safe movement exploration, strengthening, and functional activity training.

5. Viscosity
We help our hydrotherapy participants learn to move through water molecules, strengthen the muscles of the core and limbs, and improve cardiovascular endurance. As their movement speed increases, they will continue to achieve the desired results.

6. Halliwick Approach
We follow this well-accepted therapy intervention for children with neurological disability, while closely monitoring all participants with physical conditions in water activities and helping them to move independently in water and to swim.
