OYDO is a model born out of necessity, upon the demands of multicultural families living abroad for many years. Nazife Teacher, the founder of OYDO, describes this birth as follows:
“In 2010, I moved to Dubai with my 5-year-old daughter Dila. I witnessed closely that my daughter and other Turkish children could not express themselves correctly and had pronunciation difficulties because they could not master their mother tongue. The children avoided speaking Turkish. They did not have an environment that would enable them to speak Turkish and improve their language anyway. I have observed that children who receive foreign language education in Turkey also experience the same problems. Moreover, mother tongue education and foreign language learning, which are important issues, were not only a problem for our country. As a result of my detailed research, I have seen that schools, language courses, teachers working in this field, children and their families in many countries of the world, as well as in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, face similar problems. As an educator,
“After all these observations, I began to examine many successful or unsuccessful training methods in the world. I have evaluated many proven training methods one by one, such as the “IB Programme”, “British Curriculum”, “Montessori” and “Waldorf”. As a result of the evaluations, researches and experiences I made to carry the model I developed to international platforms, I focused only on the foreign language learning model with games. In this process, I helped OYDO to become what it is today, based on the surveys I conducted in Dubai for parent-student needs, the observations made by the leaders and their evaluations.”
