Founder & CEO: mypretest.co.uk (2018 – present)

Mypretest is a digital platform allowing students to practice online digital examinations covering Mathematics, English and Reasoning. Focusing on the ISEB Pretest, CAT4, UKISET & CEM exams, students complete timed examinations receiving instant grades and worked through solutions of their completed tests.

The platform allows schools and educational institutions to create “Parent” accounts and assign “Child” sub-accounts. Upon completion, results and feedback for all students can be made privately viewable to assessors, with sub-accounts till allowing students to review their work to understand their mistakes.

The aim in 2022 is to introduce adaptive learning within the platform, using machine learning to closely track students performance and adjust difficulty and style to ensure student benefits from a highly personalised learning experience.

Tutoring Examples
Year 3: Student who lacked self-confidence however was very intelligent. Through expressive writing and story telling he was able to build confidence and after a term he had gone from the quietest boy in the class to now being class monitor – a role which is elected by the form tutor. Being a keen reader, the student now enjoys writing creative and imaginative pieces in his own time.

11+: Student wishing to go to Queen Elizabeth’s Boys School, Barnet. Being an alumni of the school, I was familiar with the entrance requirements. In a period of 4 months, the student went from 60% to 90% in BOND Maths papers. The student is now in Year 7 at Queen Elizabeth’s.

11+: Student applying to a range of private and grammar schools in North London. Provided consultation on types of schools and focusses on sports/music/academics. Once the choices were made, I provided specific tuition tailored to the 4 main schools being applied to. The student attained entry into 3 of the 4 schools and decided to attend Haberdashers’ Aske’s School.

13+: Intelligent student who needed practice predominantly in explaining her thinking in Maths and logic problems. A common trait looked out for in interviews. After revising some potential riddle-type questions and working on answers to common interview questions, she gained a place to St Paul’s School, her first choice.

GCSE: Student from Claremont tutored in Edexcel History GCSE. Most focus was placed on the long essay question towards the end of the paper with emphasis on essay structure and choice of words. The student was predicted a B and achieved an A (two marks off an A*) after tuition. In the Essay based paper, he got 91%.

A level: Tutored two students together in Edexcel Mathematics with a focus on Statistics. Both students achieved good As in their summer mocks and they’re on track for an A or A* overall. Lessons were structured so we cover a chapter per hour, and set homework on that chapter due in after 6 days. I then mark and grade it ready for the next session. The first 10 minutes of each session would then be recapping difficulties and solidifying foundations before moving on.

Degree level: Running and organising weekly help sessions for first year’s struggling with any part of the undergraduate Physics course. Particularly useful for international students who’s first language isn’t English.

UCAS/Interview Prep: Running mock interviews aimed at students applying for selective secondary school’s, Gap Year/Internship placements and Universities. Many Universities now interview and it’s a skill which can be developed quite easily given the correct resources. Candidates I’ve tutored have gained entry into the schools, Universities and companies outlined above.

Cancellation Policy
Our standard cancellation policy is that cancellations within 24 hrs may still be charged at the full rate. It is at the discretion of the tutor, and the circumstances are taken into consideration. We tend to advise tutors to give the benefit of the doubt to the client in the first instance, and politely remind them, then they are fully in their right to charge for repeat offenses, but they must notify the client they will do so so it isn't a surprise bill.
